Tutorial 7: Installing Pinax – Installing Pinax (Part 1)

Tutorial used:

http://www.paolocorti.net/2009/10/10/the-pinax-tutorial-1-installing-pinax-and-making-basic-customisation/ & http://pinax.readthedocs.org/en/latest/gettingstarted.html#installation

Purpose of Tutorial: installing django and pinax using virtualenv
– 2nd tutorial (official pinax doc) used to create & activate virtualenv
– 1st tutorial (paolocorti.net) partially used (with some personal edits) to install django 1.4.3, ipython, pinax 0.9a2,

What I Learnt:
Concept 1: create a virtualenv for your site (virtualenv name-env + source name-env/bin/activate) – hint* use ‘pinax-env’

This creates a folder firstsite-env:
— bin
——> activate
——> easy_install-2.7
——> pip-2.7
——> python2.7
— include
——> python2.7
— lib
——> python2.7

virtualenv will use the python you have on your system, in my case:
python 2.7.1 (not the python 2.7.3 i installed earlier)
we still need to install into this virtualenv
django 1.4.3 (easy_install https://www.djangoproject.com/download/1.4.3/tarball/)

ipython 0.13.1-py2.7 (easy_install ipython)

Concept 2: use ‘pip’ to install Pinax (pip install Pinax)

Concept 3: Check that you got django and pinax installed in your virtual env using ipython
